Indigay 2016: The Battle of Champions

St. Michael’s College celebrated Indigay 2016 at St. Joseph Gymnasium SMC-Bed San Miguel, Iligan City last September 23-27 until October 1, 2016 – the day of awarding. The term “INDIGAY” is derived from the Cebuano word “PANAG INDIGAY” which means contest or competition.

The celebration of Indigay 2016 took place in a weeklong of happiness and fun, getting to know more acquaintances and showcasing the unbeatable spirits of Michaelites performing their hidden talents in sports of each individual.

There were more competitions held to test the qualifications of every group in bagging the title “champion”. For the record, the College of Business Administration bagged overlapping success making it their grand slam victory.

Senior High School Department won as the first-ever Over-all Champion during the Division Schools Press Conference 2016 held last August 24-26, 2016 at Tambo Central School with the theme “Promoting K to 12 Basic Education Program as a Transformative Vehicle for Local and National Development for Campus Journalism”.

SMC won in the following events:

1st Place News Writing (Filipino, Halim Dimasindil;

Photojournalism (English), Edejed Paculba;

1st Place in Feature Writing (English and Filipino), Kassandra A. Buenafe and Andrea Escarpe;

1st Runner-up in Photojournalism (Filipino), Adrian Bhramz Illupa;

Sports Writing (English and Filipino), Melbon Ganzan and Grace Joy Bade

2nd Place in Editorial Writing (Filipino), Jamaliah Nasrodin;

3rd Place in Science and Health Writing, Mary Rose Jorza;

2nd Runner-up in Editorial Cartooning (English), Jan Paolo Lumpaz;

4th and 3rd Place in Copy Reading and Headline Writing (English and Filipino);

4th Place in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino), Benosa;

5th Place in News Writing (English), Ella Layno

in Collaborative Desktop Publishing (English), SMC bagged the 3rd place and Best in Photography; Collaborative Desktop Publishing (Filipino) got the 2nd Place, best in Editorial Writing, Best in Editorial Cartooning and Best News Story. Eight students will advance in the Regional Schools Press Conference on November 8-10 at Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

With 6 championships in various events, St. Michael’s College-Senior High School Department emerged as the Over-All Champion in the 11th year of YAPIS Literary Festival: The Brainwave Challenge held on August 4 to 6, 2016 at Doña Juana Actub Lluch Meorial Central School with the theme “Leading initiatives and actions to skills development through literary competitions”.

SMC- Basic Education Department also won the over-all champion in the 10th celebration of YAPIS Literary Festival.

Miss Earth Candidates visit Iligan City

Last October 18, 2016, Miss Earth candidates visited Iligan City. Among the candidates were Miss Pakistan- Anzhelika Tahir, Miss Iraq- Susan Sulaimani, Miss England- Luissa Burton, Miss Denmark- Klaudia Jensen, Miss Hungary-Eszter Oczella, Miss Belize- Chantae Guy, Miss Zimbabwe- Sharon Andrew, Miss Chinese Taipei- Joane Peng, Miss Romania- Crina Stinca, and Miss Chile- Tiara Fuentes who took part in a mangrove tree planting in Bayug Island and hopped on Mimbalot, Tinago and the world-renowned Maria Cristina Falls. They also visited the Macapagal-Arroyo-Macaraig Ancestral House and local school including St. Michael’s College.

St. Michael's College of Iligan City, a Catholic institution of higher learning in Iligan City, administered by the Religious of the Virgin Mary (RVM), offering four levels of education: elementary, secondary, tertiary and graduate school.

Its programs are accredited by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) for 25 years, a silver triumph indeed!
