From Plastics to Purpose: Franklin Clitar’s Eco-Brick Movement
Since 2018, Franklin Clitar’s initiative has grown into a remarkable movement that empowers the youth through ecological integrity, sustainable action, and the spirit of Laudato Si’. Driven by his passion for environmental stewardship, he introduced the use of eco-bricks as a creative and concrete response to plastic waste—an advocacy now recognized by the Diocese and embraced by several barangays in Iligan City. Over the years, the project has produced over 9000 plus eco-bricks using 1.5-liter plastic bottles and more than 3,000 eco-bricks from 200 ml bottles, demonstrating the collective commitment of students and community partners to caring for our common home.
What makes this initiative truly impactful is its integration into the school curriculum, transforming classroom learning into hands-on ecological advocacy aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
In living out the call of Laudato Si’ to protect the environment and uphold ecological responsibility, Franklin’s leadership inspires students to become active contributors to sustainability showing that small, consistent actions can spark meaningful and lasting change.
