The Guidance Services Center (GSC) of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. is a compassionate, student-centered formation office dedicated to the holistic development, well-being, and success of all Michaelites, as well as the support of teachers, parents, community partners, and external agencies. Animated by the love of Mother Mary and Jesus Christ and grounded in the Ignacian–Marian mission of faith, service, and excellence, the GSC actively nurtures individuals in becoming responsible, resilient, ethical, and purpose-driven members of society.
Rooted in the college’s commitment to inclusivity, moral responsibility, and respect for intellectual property, the Center ensures that every learner—regardless of background, ability, or circumstance—experiences dignity, guidance, empathy, and meaningful support. The GSC upholds strict professional standards for confidentiality, ethical practice, and student welfare, ensuring a safe and affirming space for growth.
Aligned with the global call toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Guidance Services Center integrates programs that promote mental health (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), peace-building (SDG 16), and partnerships for community development (SDG 17). Through values-based interventions, psychosocial formation, and community-responsive initiatives, the Center empowers learners to become agents of positive transformation in society.
The Guidance Services Center provides the following major service areas:
Counseling Services
A structured and confidential process that assists students in personal, emotional, academic, social, spiritual, and career concerns. Counseling promotes self-awareness, resilience, healthy decision-making, and psychological well-being. The GSC also offers crisis intervention and referral services in partnership with accredited professionals and agencies when necessary.
Other Guidance Services
These include individual inventory services, testing and assessment, career and life-skills development, group guidance, orientations, psychoeducation programs, follow-up and monitoring, faculty consultation, research, scholarship screening, outreach initiatives, and collaborative programs aligned with CSR and SDGs. These services strengthen students’ capacities, nurture life competencies, and foster a culture of compassion, responsibility, and global citizenship.
Policies on Special Needs
The GSC is committed to inclusive education by developing and implementing policies that support learners with special needs and diverse learning conditions. This includes coordination with parents, faculty, and specialists; designing reasonable accommodations; applying inclusive educational strategies; and advocating for equitable learning environments. These policies affirm the dignity and uniqueness of every learner and ensure that no student is left behind.
Through all its programs, the Guidance Services Center remains steadfast in its mission to accompany all members of the Michaelite community toward personal growth, academic success, ethical awareness, mental wellness, and a deeper sense of purpose—guided always by the love of Christ and the gentle inspiration of Mother Mary.
