In January 2019, the SAGIP and SIBOL Tutorial Programs of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. conducted a meaningful values formation activity for children from partner communities in Iligan City. Led by dedicated student volunteers, the activity focused on instilling positive values that would guide the children not only in their studies but also in their daily lives.
Through age-appropriate discussions, storytelling, simple games, and interactive activities, the children were introduced to core values such as respect, honesty, responsibility, cooperation, and love for others. These activities were designed to help them understand the importance of good character, self-discipline, and empathy, reinforcing the idea that learning goes beyond academics and includes the formation of strong moral foundations.
The activity provided a nurturing space where children felt safe to express themselves, share experiences, and reflect on their actions. For the student volunteers, the session was an opportunity to practice compassionate teaching and mentorship, strengthening their skills in values integration and child-centered facilitation. It also deepened their sense of social responsibility as future educators committed to shaping not only knowledgeable learners but also morally grounded individuals. The January 2019 SAGIP and SIBOL values activity highlighted the program’s commitment to holistic education, where academic support is complemented by character development. True to the mission of St. Michael’s College, the initiative embodied the values of faith, excellence, and service, affirming that education becomes truly transformative when it touches both the mind and the heart.
