From Profits to Purpose: FM  7 Students Lead a Mission of Compassion and Community Transformation

One of the defining strengths of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy at St. Michael’s College is its commitment to forming socially responsible business students—individuals who understand that financial success is meaningful only when it is shared for the common good. This vision came to life in a heartfelt initiative titled “From Profits to Purpose”, led by the students of FM7 on May 8, 2024, at GK Mission Ville in Iligan City. Supported by the CBAA Council and the Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES), the outreach aimed to convert classroom-generated business profits into tangible acts of service for the community.

The activity highlighted the essence of ethical business leadership: transforming economic gain into social impact. Through this initiative, students learned that the true measure of entrepreneurship lies not only in profit margins but also in the ability to uplift and empower others—mirroring the Michaelite spirit of Faith, Excellence, and Service.

Business With a Heart: Turning Classroom Profits into Community Support (SDG 1 & SDG 10)

This outreach directly aligned with SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, as FM7 students used the funds they earned through class projects to provide essential supplies, food items, hygiene packs, educational materials, and fun activities for the children and families of GK Mission Ville. By consciously redirecting profits toward community development, students demonstrated generosity, compassion, and a keen understanding of inclusive economic growth.

They realized that in many communities, even small interventions can create meaningful change. Through this initiative, FM7 students took on the role of young social entrepreneurs, making deliberate choices to bridge gaps and support sectors that often experience socioeconomic challenges. Their actions reflected the belief that business should always uphold social welfare, community empowerment, and human dignity.

Learning Ethical Entrepreneurship Through Real-World Experience (SDG 4: Quality Education)

The FM7 outreach is a powerful example of SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly in its emphasis on experiential learning. By managing profits, planning outreach logistics, identifying community needs, and coordinating with partners, students applied classroom theories to real-life situations.

Throughout the project, students practiced:

This hands-on approach deepened their understanding of business ethics, social responsibility, and sustainable impact. The outreach program was filled with joyful interactions, games, sharing sessions, and community bonding. Students engaged with children and families through friendly conversations, educational activities, and team-building games that brought genuine smiles and laughter to the community. Through these interactions, students strengthened their sense of empathy, humility, and awareness of social realities.

They recognized that leadership is not solely about managing teams or achieving business targets—it is also about serving communities with understanding and compassion. This realization builds the foundation of future leaders who value human connection as much as economic productivity.

Community Building Through Collaborative Effort

One of the strongest features of the project was the collaboration between FM7 students, the CBAA Council, and the YES Society. Together, they embodied the Michaelite spirit of unity by working as a coordinated team from planning to execution. Each subgroup handled essential tasks such as budgeting, logistics, materials preparation, program design, transportation, and on-site coordination.

The synergy among student organizations demonstrated the power of collective action and the impact that can be achieved when young leaders unite under a shared purpose. Their cooperation reflected SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, emphasizing that sustainable change is possible through teamwork and shared vision.

Grounded in Faith, Inspired by Mother Mary’s Compassion

The heart of the activity was deeply rooted in Catholic social teaching. The students modeled the kindness, gentleness, and selflessness of Mother Mary, offering service that reflected genuine love for neighbor. By giving without expectation and serving with open hearts, they lived out Christ’s call to care for the poor and marginalized.

Throughout the outreach, students were reminded of the moral responsibility that comes with their business education—using their talents and privileges not for personal gain alone but for uplifting those in need. Their actions symbolized faith in motion: a devotion that translates into concrete deeds of generosity, respect, and kindness.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders: Entrepreneurs With Purpose

Ultimately, “From Profits to Purpose” was more than an outreach event—it was a formation experience. Students witnessed firsthand how business decisions can uplift lives and communities. They learned that entrepreneurship grounded in ethics and compassion creates lasting impact, strengthens community bonds, and supports sustainable development.

The event challenged them to reimagine business—not as a system solely for profit, but as an avenue for empowerment, service, and social transformation. It nurtured future professionals who understand that the most successful business leaders are those who uplift others along the way.

As St. Michael’s College continues its mission of forming leaders anchored in Faith, Excellence, and Service, initiatives like this stand as living proof that Michaelite education builds more than skills—it builds character, purpose, and a heart for humanity.
