On December 9, 2016, St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. (SMCII), through the Mother Ignacia Center for Social Responsibility (MICSR), in collaboration with the College of Nursing (CON), College of Commerce (COC), College of Hotel and Restaurant Management (CHRM), and the College of Engineering and Computer Studies (CECS), conducted “Sandayong sa Gugma – Scavengers and PWDs” at the SMC Gymnasium, during the Second Semester of Academic Year 2016–2017.
The activity was designed to extend love, care, and social inclusion to scavengers and persons with disabilities (PWDs)—sectors often marginalized and vulnerable in society. Through meaningful interactions, provision of basic assistance, and shared fellowship, the program created a safe and welcoming space that affirmed the dignity and worth of every individual.
Sandayong sa Gugma highlighted the power of interdisciplinary collaboration, with participating colleges contributing their expertise and service to address holistic needs—health, livelihood, hospitality, and technological support. The activity also served as a venue for experiential learning, allowing students to practice compassion, empathy, and social responsibility beyond the classroom.
This initiative reflects SMCII’s mission of faith, excellence, and service, embodying the spirit of solidarity and shared humanity. It reinforced the institution’s commitment to leaving no one behind and promoting a culture of care and respect within the community.Through Sandayong sa Gugma, SMCII reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development and compassionate service, demonstrating that true education is expressed in acts of love, unity, and genuine concern for the least and the last in society.
