The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Tipanoy in Iligan City became a venue of learning, dialogue, and solidarity as the 14th Community Relations activity was successfully held on June 27, 2025. Carried by the theme “Ugnayan at Bayanihan sa Piitan: Sandigan ng Serbisyong Tunay Para sa Bagong Pilipinas,” the activity underscored the power of collaboration in fostering humane, inclusive, and transformative correctional services.
The event was organized in partnership with the BJMP and co-sponsored by the College of Criminology (COC) and MICSR, bringing together student representatives, faculty members, coordinators, and administrators for a meaningful engagement with BJMP personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
Anchored on key Sustainable Development Goals—SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—the activity aimed to strengthen unity, service, and rehabilitation within and beyond the jail community. Participants took part in a guided tour of the BJMP facilities, a heartfelt “Kumustahan” with the PDLs, an orientation on BJMP offices and welfare programs, and inspiring presentations showcasing the talents, stories, and hopes of the PDLs.
More than an institutional visit, the activity became a shared human experience—one that deepened participants’ understanding of jail management and rehabilitation while nurturing compassion, social responsibility, and a renewed commitment to justice and community service in building a more inclusive Bagong Pilipinas.
