The College of Education of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. has conducted their Sagip Tutorial Program on August 16, 2025. They have held it at GK Lafarge Village, Tag-ibo, Dalipuga, Iligan City, providing free tutorial services to Grades 1 to 6 pupils as a part of their community extension efforts aimed at supporting pupils in underserved areas and promoting inclusive access to basic education.
The program was led by the Teacher’s Guild officers, SAGIP Committee Members, Mrs. Terencia R. Arnejo, and MICSR coordinator. It has aimed at consolidating the relationship among the school, college, and the local community of Dalipuga by which they have addressed the learning needs of the pupils through a sense of volunteerism.
During the activity, the basic subjects such as reading, writing, and mathematics were taught by for instance volunteer tutors who helped the pupils to better their study habits and understanding. At the same time, the program was also used as a training ground to education students as they were able to implement teaching theories in real classrooms and acquire skills as professionals.
Moreover, the program has shown the core values of faith, excellence, and service. Religion was expressed in selfless volunteerism; excellence by quality teaching and service by a dedication to community growth. It is as well in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which emphasizes collaboration among institutions and communities. By working closely with the residents of GK Lafarge Village, the College of Education strengthened partnerships that contribute to sustainable educational development.
Through initiatives such as this, the College of Education has been able to leave a long-lasting impact in the communities where its operations are due to its efforts to end up with competent, competitive, and service oriented graduates through programs such as Sagip Tutorial Program.
