Strengthening Institutional Linkages through the DSWD–Region X Visit and Consultation for the LANAO DEL NORTE SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD PROGRAM

On October 4, 2016, St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. (SMCII), through the Mother Ignacia Center for Social Responsibility (MICSR), conducted a Visit and Consultation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Region X at the Office of the Mother Ignacia Center for Social Responsibility, during the First Semester of Academic Year 2016–2017.

The consultation aimed to strengthen institutional linkages and explore collaborative opportunities between SMCII and DSWD–Region X in advancing community development, social welfare initiatives, and capacity-building programs. The engagement provided a venue for dialogue on shared advocacies, particularly in supporting vulnerable sectors such as children, families, and community volunteers through education- and service-based interventions.

During the visit, discussions focused on aligning institutional programs with government-led social welfare initiatives, identifying areas where academic expertise and community engagement efforts could complement public service delivery. The consultation reinforced the importance of partnership, coordination, and shared accountability in implementing sustainable and responsive social responsibility programs.

This activity reflects SMCII’s commitment to values-driven leadership and participatory engagement, guided by the principles of faith, excellence, and service. By engaging with DSWD–Region X, the institution reaffirmed its role as a proactive partner in nation-building and community empowerment, ensuring that its extension programs remain relevant, ethical, and impactful.

Through this consultation, SMCII laid the groundwork for deeper collaboration with DSWD–Region X, reinforcing MICSR’s role as a bridge between education and social service in advancing inclusive and sustainable community development.
