Developing Environmental Responsibility through a Business Ethics Coastal Clean-Up

On February 14, 2017, students of the Business Ethics class of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc., under the guidance of Mr. Korsiney N. Cabasis, conducted a Coastal Clean-Up activity at Barangay Santiago, Iligan City, during Academic Year 2016–2017. The activity formed part of the course’s experiential learning component, aimed at developing students’ sense of environmental responsibility and ethical stewardship.

Through this hands-on initiative, students actively participated in cleaning coastal areas, gaining first-hand awareness of environmental issues such as waste management, pollution, and community accountability. The activity emphasized that ethical business practice extends beyond profit-making and includes responsibility toward the environment and society.

The coastal clean-up allowed students to translate ethical concepts discussed in class into concrete action, reinforcing values of discipline, teamwork, and social responsibility. It also strengthened the students’ understanding that sustainable development requires individual and collective commitment to protecting natural resources.
