EMERGENCY RESPONSE for One for Marawi City: Delivering Relief and Solidarity to Evacuees in Iligan City

In response to the humanitarian crisis brought about by the Marawi siege, St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. (SMCII), through the Mother Ignacia Center for Social Responsibility (MICSR) and in partnership with SMC Alumni, carried out the Distribution of Goods to Evacuees in Iligan City under the One for Marawi City Program. The relief operations were conducted on June 2, 5, 9, and 19, 2017, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, during Academic Year 2017–2018.

The activity reached displaced families temporarily housed at the Evacuation Center in Fisheries, Buruun, Iligan City, and the Evacuation Center in Maria Cristina, Iligan City. Volunteers distributed essential goods aimed at addressing the immediate needs of evacuees, particularly food items and basic necessities, helping ease the daily struggles of families affected by conflict and displacement.

More than a relief operation, the activity was an expression of compassion and solidarity. It demonstrated how the SMCII community—together with its alumni—mobilized resources, time, and collective effort to serve those in distress. The initiative embodied the institution’s commitment to faith, excellence, and service, emphasizing that education institutions play a vital role not only in learning but also in humanitarian response and social responsibility.Through this sustained distribution of goods, St. Michael’s College reaffirmed its role as a caring and responsive institution, standing with communities in times of crisis and helping restore hope, dignity, and a sense of shared humanity among displaced families.
