St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. (SMCII) was recognized for its sustained commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive education after emerging as a standout among schools in Iligan City, earning the Outstanding Youth Project for Educationaward during thePasigarbo sa Diyandi Youth Leadership and Excellence Awards on September 7, 2024.
The recognition highlights the institution’s long-standing outreach initiatives led by the College of Education, which for nearly eight years has continuously served children and families in remote and underserved communities, particularly in GK Lafarge Dalipuga. Through consistent learning support and values-based programs, the college has helped ensure that education remains accessible, meaningful, and transformative for young learners.
At the heart of this effort is the Teacher’s Guild Program, an initiative designed to promote positive change and foster holistic youth development in Iligan City. Under this program, the College of Education offers learning sessions in Computer Literacy, Mathematics, English, Science, Spiritual Growth, and other foundational subjects—creating opportunities for children to grow academically while being nurtured emotionally and morally.
While the program primarily advances Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive and equitable learning opportunities, it also contributes to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by reaching children in marginalized communities, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through supportive and confidence-building learning spaces, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through sustained collaboration between the institution and the community.
Rooted in the Ignacian Marian virtues and core value of Service, the Teacher’s Guild Program reflects the mission of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. to form educators who teach with compassion, dedication, and social responsibility. Student volunteers and faculty members do more than deliver lessons—they build relationships, listen to stories, and walk alongside the children, reinforcing the belief that education is an act of love and solidarity.
The Pasigarbo sa Diyandi recognition affirms SMCII’s role as a catalyst for meaningful social change. More than an award, it stands as a testament to the power of sustained service and community engagement—proving that when education is grounded in values and shared with heart, it can transform lives and strengthen communities.
