With hearts eager to learn and minds open to new experiences, the College of Education of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc. embarked on an educational tour to Davao City in October 2025—a journey that went beyond travel and became a meaningful step toward strengthening quality education.
The first day brought the group to the Davao Crocodile Park, where students encountered the richness of Davao’s natural environment. Observing wildlife and learning about conservation efforts sparked curiosity and reflection, reminding participants that meaningful learning also happens through real-world experiences that enrich understanding and appreciation beyond textbooks.
On the second day, the tour took a more academic direction as students and faculty engaged in benchmarking visits to the University of the Immaculate Conception and University of the Philippines Mindanao. These encounters created spaces for dialogue and shared learning, allowing future educators to gain insights into effective teaching practices, curriculum development, and innovative approaches to education. The experience directly supported Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education)by strengthening competencies, broadening perspectives, and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement in teacher education.
The educational tour also reflected Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it fostered meaningful connections between institutions and highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing educational excellence. Through open exchanges and mutual learning, students came to understand that strong partnerships play a vital role in shaping responsive and relevant education systems.
Guided by the Ignacian Marian values, particularly the spirit of service, humility, and excellence, the tour became a moment of reflection and growth. It reminded future educators that teaching is a lifelong commitment to learning—one that requires openness, compassion, and a willingness to learn from others.
The October 2025 educational tour to Davao City will be remembered not just for the places visited, but for the lessons carried home. It stands as a testament to the College of Education’s dedication to quality, inclusive, and values-driven education, forming educators who teach with heart, collaborate with purpose, and serve with integrity.
