The St. Michaelโs College of Iligan, Inc. achieved a historic milestone as it held its first Islamic Seminar, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the school heads and Al-Jalis As-Salih The Good Companion, Inc. The agreement includes the conduct of Islamic seminars every first Friday of the month, which aims to strengthen the schoolโs commitment to inclusivity and spirituality.
Organized by the Wihdah Muslim Students Association (WIMSA) of SMCII, the seminar featured two simultaneous sessions. One for Senior High School and another for Junior High School. Both of these sessions were centered on the theme โThe Importance of Being a Muslim.โ The program included two invited ustadhs from Al-Jalis As-Salih The Good Companion, Inc. who delivered insightful discussions on the identity and purpose of being a muslim.
Ustadh Rabbani G. Saaban, Head of the Academic Department of Al-Jalis As-Salih The Good Companion, Inc., led the first series of seminars for the junior high school students. His talk emphasized the completeness of Allah ๏ทป and reminded the students of their divine duty of deepening their relationship with Allah ๏ทป, for it is Him who completes and guides. He further reiterated that Allah is the ultimate truth and that all Muslims are called to worship Him sincerely.
Meanwhile, Ustadh Abdulrahman R. Guro highlighted to the senior high school attendees that faith grows from within, telling students that spiritual development begins internally and not externally. โYou are here to be challenged in the world,โ he said, as he guided them through reflections on lifeโs purpose, humility, and personal growth. He stressed that the essence of being a Muslim is understanding that the more one learns, the more that they do not knowโa manifestation of humility.
Ustadh Guro also emphasized the cultural and religious identity misconceptions, and reminded students of the importance of respecting their parents. He stated that Islam encourages Muslims to pursue professional success, but always with the constant remembrance of Allah ๏ทป. His discussion helped learners see how applying Islamic principles can guide them toward success in school and even in the real life.
Overall, the event marked a successful beginning to SMCIIโs monthly Islamic seminar series. This is a benchmark, presenting a strong step toward fostering an inclusive and spiritually supportive environment for the institution’s Muslim students. The initiative itself is a testament to SMCIIโs commitment to ensuring that all learners, whatever the religious identity, is acknowledged, represented, and empowered in their faith.
