Community-Based SAGIP Tutorial Sessions in Tag-ibo and Dalipuga

On November 18, 2018, pupils from various public schools in Tag-ibo and Dalipuga, Iligan City benefited from free tutorial services through the SAGIP Tutorials Program of St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc., facilitated by committed student volunteers from the College of Education. This community-based initiative was designed to strengthen learners’ academic foundations while fostering a culture of service among future educators.

During the activity, particular emphasis was placed on literacy development in Mathematics and English, recognizing these as essential competencies for academic success. Focused interventions were implemented to enhance numeracy skills, problem-solving, reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and basic language proficiency. Complementary lessons in Science and Christian Living were also provided to support holistic learning and values formation.

The program offered pupils meaningful academic support beyond regular school hours, helping bridge learning gaps and build confidence. For the student volunteers, the sessions served as a valuable experiential learning platform, allowing them to apply pedagogical theories, practice classroom management, and refine instructional strategies aligned with the K–12 curriculum competencies. Tutorials were conducted every Saturday, ensuring consistency and sustained guidance.

Through these sessions, the SAGIP Tutorials Program embodied St. Michael’s College’s core values of faith, excellence, and service, promoting inclusive education and strong community partnership.
