The school community continues to uphold its commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility through the initiative “Mangrove Planting,” conducted on September 11, 2025, in Bayug, Iligan City. This activity reflects the institution’s dedication to fostering ecological awareness and active community involvement, while instilling in participants a deeper sense of care for creation and responsibility toward future generations. The mangrove planting activity serves as a concrete response to environmental challenges and highlights the role of education in promoting sustainable development.
At the core of the initiative is the active participation of students, teachers, and school personnel in planting mangrove seedlings along the coastal area of Bayug. Mangroves play a vital role in protecting shorelines, preventing soil erosion, supporting marine biodiversity, and mitigating the effects of climate change. Through hands-on involvement, participants gain a deeper understanding of the importance of mangroves in maintaining ecological balance and safeguarding coastal communities. The activity transforms environmental awareness into meaningful action, allowing participants to learn beyond the classroom setting.
The success of the mangrove planting activity is made possible through the collective effort and cooperation of the school community in partnership with local stakeholders. Teachers and facilitators guided participants throughout the activity, ensuring proper planting techniques while also sharing knowledge about environmental conservation. Beyond technical instruction, educators inspired participants to develop a sense of ownership and responsibility for the environment, encouraging them to become advocates of sustainability in their own communities.
Aligned with the Desired School Goal (DSG) of forming an inclusive, faith-filled, and socially responsible school community, the mangrove planting initiative emphasizes the importance of experiential learning that nurtures both competence and character. The activity strongly supports Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action) by contributing to climate change mitigation efforts, as well as Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Life on Land) through the protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems. It also reinforces Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by integrating environmental education with real-life application.
Rooted in the core values of Faith, Excellence, and Service, the initiative becomes a meaningful expression of the school’s mission and values. Faith calls participants to recognize nature as God’s creation entrusted to human care, fostering gratitude and respect for the environment. Excellence is reflected in the careful planning, coordination, and responsible execution of the activity to ensure its long-term impact. Service is lived out through the voluntary participation and collective effort of the school community in serving both the environment and the people who depend on it.
Through this purposeful and values-driven initiative, the school strengthens its role as a catalyst for positive environmental action. The mangrove planting activity not only contributes to ecological preservation but also shapes environmentally conscious individuals who understand their responsibility to protect and sustain the natural world. By engaging in meaningful service grounded in faith and guided by excellence, the institution continues to form learners and educators who are committed to caring for creation and building a more sustainable and resilient community.
