On December 2, 2025, St. Michael’s College of Iligan, Inc., through the College of Arts and Sciences–Psychology Program, successfully conducted the CAS U-ROCK: Psych 3 Positive Reinforcement & Early Childhood Development Outreach Program at the Barangay Santiago Child Development Center, Purok 5A, Iligan City. Spearheaded by students of PSYCH 3 (Theories of Personality), the outreach formed part of the institution’s continuing commitment to community engagement, student formation, and values-driven education.
The activity was designed to support early childhood development by applying principles of positive reinforcement, active learning, and value formation. Recognizing the formative nature of early education, the student volunteers facilitated developmentally appropriate activities that promoted cognitive growth, social interaction, emotional expression, and physical wellness. At the same time, the program encouraged children to engage in meaningful play and learning beyond digital screens, fostering healthy habits and interpersonal skills.
The outreach followed a well-structured and engaging flow, beginning with energizers and prayer, followed by wellness dances, interactive storytelling, question-and-answer sessions with positive reinforcement, cooperative games, and communal sharing through food distribution. Each activity was intentionally designed to reinforce positive behavior, build confidence, and create a joyful learning environment. The presence and participation of parents, teachers, and community representatives further strengthened the sense of shared responsibility and partnership.
Beyond its impact on the children, the program served as a meaningful learning experience for the student volunteers. By applying psychological theories in a real-world setting, they developed leadership, teamwork, empathy, and communication skills while deepening their understanding of child behavior and community needs. The integration of faith, service, and academic learning reflected the College’s core values of Faith, Excellence, and Service, making the outreach both educational and transformative.
Overall, the CAS U-ROCK Outreach Program proved to be a successful and impactful initiative. It created a nurturing space where children felt valued and motivated to learn, while student volunteers grew in social awareness and professional responsibility. The activity stands as a testament to the power of community-based learning and the vital role of higher education institutions in promoting holistic development and inclusive community engagement.
